Our Backyard Blue Oasis

Seeing that we didn't have much of a winter, and that I was going to be pregnant in the summer I begged Tim for a pool this summer. I never thought I would have an above ground pool. They are pretty unattractive. Well, when you can already swim in it in April and May it is worth every penny and unattractiveness it adds to our back yard. Also, the smile on my little fishy's face is priceless.

Addison: 2.5 Years!

Addison,

Today you are two and a half. Wow little one, time is flying by. It seems like you are still growing and changing weekly.

Right now your imagination is just exploding. Lately you have really been into playing cowboy. You ride around on your horsey (a small broom) and use your "roe" (rope) to "catch the cows". You also will drag a stuffed animal, usually Romo, around by your rope. If Romo isn't dragging behind fast enough or gets caught up, you try to coax him along saying "come on Romo" or "come on boy".

You also like to pretend you are a dog. You make us tell you to sit, spin around, fetch, and speak. You also like to lick and pant like a dog. I must say it is a little silly, but you seem to love dogs. In fact, lots of time when we get home you want to go see "my dogs". You are big enough now we let you play with them. You boss them around and play chase.

You still love to dance, sing and perform. Recently, you have been dancing to your Leapfrog player, which consists of a few songs and the letters of the alphabet. You press the button then yell out from deep in your belly "ready to dance girls". It is so cute when you start dancing you look around to make sure we are paying attention. Once we make eye contact you grin really big and start to dance around. Your dancing usually consists of galloping in a circle, especially around the coffee table, spinning in a circle, shaking your little booty, or a new interpretive style where you stand mostly still and slowly move your arms about following them with your eyes.

You are talking more in paragraphs than sentences. You will tell us stories of your day or of days past. You are also yelling and shouting. You have learned that you get a lot of volume by using your diaphram. You breathe in then yell out whatever you are trying to say. You will be a good cheerleader someday. Phrase often yelled are "Ride'em Cowboys", "Yee-Haw", "I can stomp my feet", "Ready to dance girls", and "Go Pokes!"

You really are into sports lately. Lots of baseball, probably because you have watched Daddy's team some this spring and you have gone to a few of his softball games. Also, the neighbor boys have a tee that you get to play with sometimes. You aren't too bad. Also, you love to throw the football, and Dad has been teaching you golf. He makes sure you hold the club just right. Finally, we were at Buffalo Wild Wings the other day and you pointed out hockey to us. We have no clue where you learned that one because we have never watched it or talked to you about it. So it seems you have a bit of a love for sports in your blood.

Lots of Randoms about you....
-You still like to make lists and take our lunch orders.
-You recently have been requesting peanut butter sandwiches a lot.
-You still play with your dolls and stuffed animals. You have to tend to them often because they are crying.
-You still love to wear your little mermaid heels. You even wore them to Stacy's one day recently. It's hard to argue in the mornings when I am running around like crazy anyway.
-You whisper "a secret" in our ear.
-You love to play with dirt and rocks.
-You have become obsessed with being a T-Rex. In the mornings, I coax you to open your mouth by having you show me your T-Rex teeth.
-Potty training is still a work in progress. Usually only one accident a day, but some days no accidents.
-The other day you told me you were going to see your "Best Friend Charlotte".
-You have become quite the fish in our pool.
-You know your old room is Lilah's room, and tell us that it is messy. We know little one, mama is just slow to get stuff together for this little one.
-We have cleaned up your sisters room and have rocked you a few times in the rocker. Oh, it brings back so many fond memories. You rock better with your Daddy. He doesn't have the bump I have hindering your relaxation.
- Sometimes you walk around with my back/belly brace on and say "Oh Lilah is so heavy!"
-You had us make a box into a robot for you. We have no clue where you come up with this stuff.
-You have learned to turn on your DvD player in your Daddy's headrest with your foot. You will take off your shoe and press the button with your toe.
-You know our meal time prayer and like to say it by yourself. However, it is a little hard to understand.
-Your favorite bedtime songs are still Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Twinkle, and Snuggle Puppy.
-The other day you said, "Mom do you have your phone with ya? Can I watch George?" I was so surprised at how grown up you sounded.

Addison, you are such a bright spot in our life. We love you to pieces!

Love,
Mommy

Fabulous Mother's Day Weekend

I had a fabulous Mother's Day weekend. On Saturday, we were prepared to get up and go visit my in-laws, but they called us a 7 am and said they would make the drive to see us. So thoughtful, they didn't want us to have to sit in a car for 3 hours. So we went out for a nice lunch at Ted's and had a visit then they were on their way. Tim and I even got to sneak in a quick nap.

Sunday, I started the day with breakfast prepared by my wonderful husband. Then we went to church where Addison made me a handprint gift that she just didn't want to give up. Followed by time at my Aunt and Uncle's with my Mom's family. Then we finished off with some time at my Granny and Grandpa's. It was a relaxing day filled with lots of people I love. All in all a perfect Mother's Day weekend.

Potty Training Update

Potty training, boy has that been fun. :( Seems like as soon as I pushed publish on the potty training post the accidents began. Addison seemed to have an accident at Stacy's about every other day. It is hard to understand because she knows exactly what to do but sometimes just don't do it. Little girl this is frustrating, let's just be done with the accidents and be fully trained okay. It does make me glad we started the process so far in advance of Lilah's arrival. We recently started giving her consequences for having an accident. It started out with a spanking, but little one you have pulled at your mommy's and Stacy's heart strings too much and now we are to time out. Here was the scenario. We had been doing the spanking method for a couple of days. One day Addy had an accident at Stacy's, which she said she did not spank her for, and Stacy did not go into detail as to why not. Stacy and I agreed that we should at least do timeout, so that she would see that she could not just pee in her pants while playing and go back to playing. She needed a timeout to "think about" what you had done (oh geez do I sound like my parents). So that evening when we got home Addy and I were playing just fine. I started dinner, and she went off to her room to get her babies. Well she never came back and things seemed a little quiet. I went in there and found her squatted in the corner (never a good sign). I asked her if she had pee peed in her pants to which she responded "No". I asked again and she said "Mommy I don't need a spanking, don't be mad at me". Well that killed me. She said it in such a soft, sweet, innocent voice. It caught me off guard and I didn't know what to do. She continued saying it. I kept saying be strong, be strong. But I could almost feel tears coming and thinking great my child thinks I beat her. So I took her to the bathroom, then I told her she would have to sit in timeout. Mommy was not happy, because she had made her panties yucky. Well, timeout was pretty awful in her book, so I felt like at least she was getting some sort of punishment. After she quit wailing in timeout and was quiet for a few seconds (the whole timeout was 5-10 mins of which she whined the entire time). We tried to have a talk about what she did. We talked about keeping her panties dry and telling me when she needs to go. However, the whole time she kept stroking my face saying "it's okay mommy". I continually had to say look at mommy's eyes because she was trying to give me her cute little gaze up to the ceiling to get out of the situation. I mean this girl already learned how to work me. After the whole situation it dawned on me she must have done this to Stacy. Sure enough I called Stacy and she had a similar story. So we decided our plan of attack would be the timeout, but I tell you this little one is a mess. It is a good thing she truly has a good, sweet heart, and doesn't have lots of discipline problems. This parenting stuff is hard, especially when by the end of the day you are worn out and you haven't seen your child all day. Tim is much better at this stuff than me. I know we have to continue to be firm to lay a foundation so she can learn right from wrong, but it is really a hard job. Okay, I am getting off topic a bit that could be a whole new post. The point of the post was potty training is still going on. Stacy, Tim and I have a plan, and hope over the summer with only Addy and Charlotte at Stacy's things will get a little better. Stacy keeps saying just keep trudging on, so that is what we are doing. Praying for the day that it all sticks and no more accidents EVER!
