Happy Halloween!

Yesterday was Lilah's first big holiday and Addison's first time to really trick or treat like a big girl! We started the day out dressing up in something fun for Stacy's. Addison was a cowgirl and Lilah wore her spider PJ's and a "My First Halloween" bib.

After work I was pretty darn excited to get the party started. I had it all planned (or so I thought). I pulled in at Stacy's to pick up the girls. (I cannot figure out how to get two kids and stuff out the door at any sort of rapid pace.) Tenish minutes later we were off. Addison talked the whole way home. We practiced Halloween etiquette and I went over the event plans for the evening. We got home that's when things got a little dicey. I went to get Addison's costume out for the event so she could start dressing while I dressed Lilah. Open the dryer, clothes don't look fluffy, Drat! they didn't dry all the way. So on goes the dryer I proceed to dress Lilah and tell Addy to get her cowgirl outfit off. All the while, she finds candy and begs to eat it. I know she has already had a lot of sugar for the day so I deny. Cue the whining. Lilah is now dressed. I have got to change. Tell Addy again to take off her cowgirl outfit, she got distracted by a note her Aunt Jenny left her. On the way to change I check the clothes, still damp. Consider putting my kid in damp clothes, nope too cold, so back in the dryer. I go change. ADDISON take off your costume! I might be getting a little impatient. Lilah messed her pants. Change Lilah. Now offer stickers as a bribe for Addison to take off her costume. I swear she gets distracted by EVERYTHING! Decide to put Addison in her costume sans the warm under layer thinking maybe the under layers will dry in the car. Start putting the kids in the car. Find my phone. Tim has called, shoot. Call him back and ask him to just pick up the 50 cent corndogs from Sonic. It is now looking like I will not have time for that. He needs me to get him clothes. I scrap the whole meet at our friends house plan and tell him to just come home. Take everyone out of the car. Throw Addy's clothes back in the dryer. Decide to take pictures of my sweeties. Addy stop bugging Lilah, stand up, look at me... you know normal trying to get a cute picture talk. Friend calls they have been at Sonic for 45 minutes. Sheesh. Back to pictures. Decide maybe Tim should just meet us there. Put everyone back in the car. Lilah is ticked. Find Tim's clothes. Grab Addy's clothes out of the dryer. Tim calls back. They are out of corndogs. He is ticked and is going to McDonalds. Jump in the car and drive to our friends house with Lilah screaming. Call Tim tell him we have to get out of our bad moods this is supposed to be fun and next time we decide we are going to plan waaay better.

Once we made it to our friends and everyone ate things went much better. We got the girls dressed up in their warm layers and we were off. Addison was so excited she could walk in the street. She kept saying "mom don't worry the cars won't bother me". One thing about trick or treating with young ones was it is a very slow process. At every single house Addison decided she needed to have a conversation with the person handing out the candy. Pretty sure the hander outers were not expecting this. She asked questions like "is your dog scared of me" "why do you have a dog" "what kind of dog is that" (lots of dogs in this neighborhood), "why is your pumpkin eating candy"..... It was hilarious. One house had a skeleton passing out candy and she didn't even go close to that house. Lilah was good and chilled in her stroller or in daddy's arms. She loves being outside so this was all fun to her.

Then of course we can't have a outing without Addy getting hurt. She had one big spill. Candy flew everywhere and the tears flowed.

She said my drink and candy would make her feel better.

Even though it started out scary, it ended up being super fun. It was so fun to watch Addison run from house to house and to see the excitement on her eyes when people put candy in her bucket. I can't wait for next year when Lilah will get to run around with her. I am going to plan waaaay better so we won't have the "scary" part.
