Colorado Vacation

In July we went on a family vacation to Breckenridge, Colorado. We went with my dad, step-mom and step sister. The weather was perfect and the company was even better. We split the drive up there into two days. The first evening, Thursday, we swam and ate pizza.

The Friday we met my brother and his wife for breakfast. They just moved to Colorado. Ken then went with us for some fun at the Sand Dunes. We grew up going to Colorado during the summer as kids. The sand dunes were always a spot that we would hit yearly. It was nostalgic to take my kids there. On the way there I told them about all the fun mommy had as a little girl. We lasted about an hour and a half before a big rain storm came through. It was just enough time to have fun then head on to Breckenridge.

Saturday, we lounged around the house, rode bikes, played cards, soaked in the hot tub and just took it easy.

Sunday, Tim and I had a date day. We took off early in the morning and headed to Salida to white water raft. On the way we found a coffee shop to fuel up. When we arrived we suited up into wet suits and waited for the others to arrive. We lucked out and the others did not show, so we had day all to ourselves with the guide. We started out with lots of instructions and safety talks. I started to get a little nervous. I mean there was a lot of safety stuff to go over. Finally, we bussed over and got in the water. We pretty much just floated down the river until we hit each of the eight rapids. Not knowing what to expect I really just tried to listen to the guide. It was sort of like a mini water ride where you get completely soaked. We also stopped about a 3/4 of the way and jumped off of a cliff. We both jumped and the cold water completely took my breath away. It was the weirdest feeling. I was trying to breathe but just couldn't for a couple of seconds, very exhilarating. Tim and I both loved the trip and are wanting to try more advanced rapids soon. On the way back we stopped in Breck for a bite to eat at a pub. Great food and an all around great date.

Monday was shopping day. The girls went to the outlet mall and the guys played golf. I found several shirts for myself and a some outfits for the girls. That evening we went to a Mexican restaurant in town and my family got to experience the fun of speed eating with two young girls. I apparently forgot to take any pictures this day, oops.

Tuesday we left at 4:15 in the morning. We thought for sure the girls would sleep for several hours while in the car. Well little miss Addy woke up with us at 3:45 and was awake for the first hour in the car. She fell asleep for one hour then was awake. She is so her mother. We are both not sleepers, while Lilah and Tim could sleep the day away. Lilah slept quite a bit that morning. Both girls were extremely well behaved and content in the car. They both played well, watched DVD's (well Lilah didn't she preferred to unwrap crayons), play with toys, read books, color, and dress up. They both fell asleep the last hour and a half of the twelve hour trip. Which was awesome because that last little bit of driving can sometimes be the worst.

What a fun trip. We can't wait to go back to Call-der-ado as Addison calls it.
