Thoughts on 35!

As I was scrolling through some pictures the other day, I landed on 25th birthday picture of Tim and I. I thought to myself, “Man, we look young and hot!” What happened?!?! So obviously I look different, a little heavier and some bags under my eyes and wrinkles starting. However, mentally I am so much different. I don’t sweat the small stuff. I don’t do drama (well sometimes I let myself get caught up in it). However, compared to 25, drama doesn’t have as much power over my life. I have learned to ignore and let it wash past me most of the time. Thank you to my wise husband.

I am not as good at multi-tasking. Often at the end of the day I tell Tim I have to finish something before I can start something new. I can’t have several things going at once without tons of concentration. I think I have the beautiful kiddos to thank for that.

At 25, Tim and I weren’t even engaged yet. We had just started our jobs out of college. We lived in a tiny apartment and were learning how to navigate life as adults. We often went out on weekends with our friends. Now we are lucky to see friends once a month. Our lives are filled with work, school and two beautiful babies.

While everything was new and exciting at 25, we have reached a comfortable, chaotic spot in our life. We balance budgets, shuttle kiddos, and run the house together. Yes it isn’t as fancy free as 25, but it is a down right awesome stage. I love the balancing act and the challenge it brings. It empowers me at the end of the day to sit down and say man I kicked some tail today. At 35, I am learning to savor moments, to slow down, to get away from media distractions and to keep my priorities in check (constant struggle). I hope by the time I turn 45, I look back as fondly on the past 10 years as I do now. This life sure is fun and I am thankful to get to live it.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. It started out with a donut cake and Starbucks, followed by celebrations at work, lunch with a friend, gymnastics with my girls and ended with making bead necklaces. 35 is starting pretty great.
