Lilah:4 Years Old

Lilah Grace! 4! You are FOUR years old today. I am not sure if there has ever been someone so excited about a birthday as you have been. You have been counting down for months now. And talking about the party you are going to have with Cousin Charlotte. You have been having practice parties, even wrapping up your toys as presents.

Lilah, your personality is so darn fun. You are pretty laid back and quiet most of the time. I believe your thumb helps facilitate your quiet nature. You like to sit back with your thumb in your mouth and just observe your surroundings. However, when you want to be heard, you are LOUD. You can produce some major volume. In the last several months you have taken to making up songs and singing them at the top of your lungs. It starts with a song you know and then you start ad-libbing with what you are currently looking at or doing. So darn cute to watch you so uninhibited belting out songs in your own little world.

Your sister is still your best friend. You two have a lot of time together this summer staying at home. You spend most of your free time together making up games, playing school or mom/baby, swimming or art projects. It has been interesting to watch you assert yourself over the past couple of months. For the last several years you have been pretty happy just doing whatever sister wants. Now you have some opinions and you are NOT afraid to voice them very loudly. Addison can sometimes negotiate to get her way, but there are times you want it your way, period. We try very hard to stay out of your negotiations and squabbles. We want you two to develop problem solving skills and what better way then learning to get along with your sister. We are so lucky that you two love each other so much and happy to play with each other.

Here are a few other highlights of you at four years old...
- Recently you started talking like a baby, we have to remind you to use your big girl voice.
- Started calling Addy sissy. Not sure where you got this one, we sometimes call you girls sister, but not sissy.
- You LOVE dresses and playing dress up.
- Your favorite thing to play with is still babies.
- Fast runner and very strong. You were very good at gymnastics this year.
- You call oatmeal, oakmilk.
- You love to read. During the school year in the after hours program you would gather the other kids around and sometimes read to them for 15 mins. The teacher commented this was a common occurrence and Lilah always spent time in the reading corner. Her other favorite spot was home living.
- Your school teacher commented that you were her helper. You were always wanting to help the teacher in any way possible. We received this same comment from your vacation bible school teacher.
- You are still terrified of our dogs and most dogs for that matter.
- You are very stubborn. Saying sorry hurts your soul. If you don't want to do something you are not easily bribed, threatened, or coaxed into doing it. We have some battles of wills with you. I just try to remind myself that this stubbornness with have some benefits later on in you growing into a strong, independant, woman.
- You have long, beautiful, curly hair that I refuse to cut. Your daddy wants to cut it, but I just can't. We cut Addison's hair around three and those curls never came back.
- You have said that at 4 you will stop sucking your thumb. As 4 comes closer and closer you are starting to rethink that promise. We have agreed to only sucking your thumb in bed or the car. Not sure how this will work but we are going to give it a try.
- You are still very much a daddy's girl. There are a few times a week you want mama and I savor those moments. However, most of the time you want your daddy.
- Your closest friend at school was Cooper. Your favorite person at church is Corbin. You love the boys I tell you. Not sure if this mama can handle two boy crazy girls.
- When you fall asleep at night you always request Silent Night. Once you settle down you will hum yourself to sleep. You will put your left thumb in your mouth and roll over on your left side. You like to only sleep in panties with a sheet, no other blankets.
- You are a goofy girl. Addison is our serious one and you are the silly one. I love how you crinkle up your nose when laughing. You also started telling funny stories and talking out of the side of your mouth. Your daddy is also a side mouth talker when he gets going.
- When I say "smile pretty", you cock your head to the side, hands on hips and give me a smile that is just plain adorable. You are the perfect little poser.

Lilah, I can't believe our baby is getting so big. You are a complete joy to our family. You are such a little girl that has such a big personality. You are so smiley and perfect. We love you so very much. Happy birthday!!

Love,
Mommy
