How can it be 5 years since you were born? Your daddy and I were looking through your baby book last night. Gosh those newborn days were so sweet and seem just like yesterday. Every year just flies by faster and faster. Four was a great year for you. I feel like we have reached a sweet spot with you and your sister. You are old enough to do lots of stuff on your own, but not too old to where we really have to let go.
Here are a few highlights from your year.....
- Being the youngest, you do so many things faster and earlier than Addison. You have to keep us with that big sister of yours. Addison is still one of your best friends. The summer is halfway over and you and she still have the best time together.
- You are still a tiny girl with the loudest voice.
-You loved school, red room, this year. Your teacher was Ms. Cathy, one of our favorites. You were her little helper. She said you knew where everything went in the classroom. You were very helpful to other children. And perhaps a bit bossy. There were a few times that you tested your boundaries. Ms. Cathy would text me occasionally to tell me what went wrong. When I would ask you about theses days your face was "how the heck did you know all about it mom". I still have mystical mom power to you. You never want to talk when you do something wrong. You know you have been naughty and you shrink down into a little ball not wanting to discuss the situation. The best is to let you think about it for a little bit then chat with you about it.
- You have not lost your love for babies. You constantly have "your kids" you are taking care of. One of the toys you asked for was another baby.
- One of your favorite things you started in school was reading. Since several of your classmates were moving on to Kindergarten, Ms. Cathy started some early reading. Well, my girl, you LOVE it. You picked it up pretty quickly. You have always loved sitting down with a stack of books, so I guess I am not that surprised. But this is a year earlier than Addison, so I wasn't really expecting it.
- You love gymnastics.
- You learned to swim this year, which was a big relief to this mommy. You are quite the little fish.
-We are not sending you on to Kindergarten next year even though you could technically move on. We made a decision several years ago that we wanted you to be an older kiddo in class. We know you would be fine, but when you get into the later years of school and college there are a lot more adult things you encounter. One more year older, we believe, helps you with these things. However, when we heard several of your friends were moving on we felt a bit sad for you. But girlie you make friends fast, so you will make new friends next year.
- One night about a month ago, your dad was laying with you for bedtime. He reached his hand under your pillow for some reason and felt a ziploc bag. He pulled it out and asked you "what's this?". It was a corn nut. You said you were trying to see if you could trick the tooth fairy into leaving you money. I don't know that we have laughed so hard this year. It was hilarious.
- Speaking of laying in bed, you always want dad to lay with you first then mom. Must be in that order.
- That thumb is still around. However, we have started reminding you to take it out during the day. You quickly do, with a face that says oops, I forgot.
- You have been so excited about your birthday. Your sister likes her birthday, but really doesn't talk about gifts or the party that much. Girl you get into it. You assigned Dad (surprise), Addy (flipazoo) and I (make up) gifts. You have been talking about you and Charlotte's cakes and counting down the days. Every time you talk about it you say you are so escited (excited). I love to see that joy and excitement. Your eyes just light up.
- I asked Addy to weigh in on her sister this year. Addy says "you are, sweet, kind, caring, funny and loves to play. She loves art and coloring. She loves swimming."
- You LOVE dresses. You are always the fancy one at school or church. The dress in your 5 year pictures was one of your favorites this year.
- You say "Oh Grady", instead of Oh Goodness.
- You are still very much a daddy's girl. There are a few times a week you want mama and I savor those moments. This week I have been off of work, so I have been home and you are telling daddy I am your favorite. Maybe the tides are turning, hahaha.
Lilah, you are such a beautiful, sweet, goofy and amazing child. We are so excited to have you in our family. We love you so very much! We love you so very much. Happy birthday!!
Love,
Mommy
These pictures have become so much fun. You love having that special time with mom. You had lots of ideas for poses and the twirling was your favorite.
